Hundreds on the first day of almost every cricket World Cup

Aaron FinchHundreds have been scored on the first day of every cricket World Cup except. Aaron Finch kept up the tradition by posting a century on the first day of this showpiece event, a feat that has been achieved in all but two of the 11 World Cups.

The roll of honour reads as follows:

1992  Martin Crowe  100*  New Zealand v Australia,  Auckland  and  David Boon  100  Australia v New Zealand,  Auckland         

1996  Nathan Astle  101  New Zealand v England,  Ahmedabad

1999  For the first time a century was not scored in the opening match

2003  Brian Lara  116  West Indies v South Africa,  Cape Town

2007  No century was scored in the opening match 

2011  Virender Sehwag  175  and  Virat Kohli  100*  India v Bangladesh,  Dhaka 

2015  Aaron Finch  135  Australia v England,  Melbourne
